Description

RHS Plants for PollinatorsThe future of the planet is in the hands of our children.  It is so important they learn to respect the environment and look after nature.  Our wildflower seeds party bag is a great start!  Kids party bags are often full of plastic (which is usually thrown away by the next day!) and sweets.  A packet of seeds is so much better and a great introduction to honing an interest in growing seeds for nature.  The hope is children will find it fascinating how such a tiny seed can grow into a flower or food they can eat.

Each seed packet is completely recycled, made from quality 115 gsm paper, and measures 9 x 12 cm.  The reverse of the packet details the seeds inside and the sowing instructions.  The seeds inside are in a paper sachet (not foil and plastic). They are also grown in the UK and are native UK species.  If you are not using the seeds for a while, they are viable for a few years and are easy to store by keeping them somewhere cool and dry out of direct sunlight.

About the Seeds

There are 15 species of wildflower in this mix, although not every packet may have all 15, due to seed distribution.  All of them are amazing for insects!  Seed content is as follows (please click each species to find out more information about them):

Yarrow, Lesser Knapweed, Wild Carrot, Ladies Bedstraw, Rough Hawkbit, Ox-eye Daisy, Ribwort Plantain, Selfheal, Meadow Buttercup, Cowslip, Yellow Rattle, Sorrel, Salad Burnet, White Campion and Red Campion.

Late spring to late summer

Up to around 90cm

perennial – although not all may flower during the first year

Sun

Shades of purple, pink, yellow, green and white

Best sown in spring or autumn, find a bare patch of soil in a sunny spot and sprinkle on the seeds.  Press them gently into the soil and water.  Continue watering as required.  At the end of flowering, chop the plants to ground level and clear up the cuttings.  Alternatively, let the seeds drop first or collect them for more wildflowers next year!
