Don’t Mow – Rewild!

Save bees
Rewild your garden with Wildflower Favours

Here at Wildflower Favours we are very concerned about the plight of the natural world. One area of great concern where everyone can help is to grow wildflowers for pollinators. We are all aware of the plight of our bees and other pollinators – loss of habitat, pesticide spraying and the growing of flowers with no wildlife value at all all contribute to the decline of many species. Some species are more susceptible to extinction because they require only one species of wildflowers – for example, the British Swallowtail butterfly only feeds on Milk Parsley.

If you have a garden, you can help nature by sowing or planting wildflowers. If you have a balcony, you can grow wildflowers in pots. if you don’t have a garden, you could encourage a community planting project in your neighbourhood, for example. This is so important. Since the 1930’s, Britain has lost 97% of its wildflower meadows. Let’s think about that for a moment – 97% less wildflowers for our insects. This is a vast loss of important habitat. We can all help rewild a little bit of space for wildlife.

By planting wildflowers, no matter how small an area, you are doing your bit to help biodiversity and nature. People need to be aware of the crisis our pollinators are facing. To this end, we have commissioned Ben Sinclair at Fire Lily Studios (Ben Sinclair Art) to create a short animation as part of our forthcoming campaign to get people to rewild their gardens, narrated by Megan McCubbin. Come on, folks, we can do this!

We hope this animation will inspire people to grow wildflowers in their gardens, balconies, communities – anywhere! We also hope that people will feel inspired to collaborate in their communities and create a wildflower area and rewild and set aside spaces for nature.

We will update our website and social media with details of when the animation is available so everyone can share it and inspire more people! Watch this space!
