Grow Wildflowers

Description

RHS Plants for PollinatorsA seed packet to make you and the bees feel happy!  Grow some sunshine and help the bees! This packet of sunflower seeds can serve as a gift, a treat for yourself or as a wedding favour.  It is also a great promotional tool for your business – show your customers you care about the natural world.  We can add a logo at no extra cost, just email it over after you have ordered.  Sunflowers are so easy to grow that their seeds are also great to give to children to get them interested in nature and learning about the growth cycle of plants.

Our seed packets are made from quality recycled manilla paper and measure 9 x 12 cm.  Also available in recycled white paper – please choose your option.  Sowing instructions are printed on the back of the packet.

Sunflowers (helianthus annuus) are annual flowers and need very little description – there is no mistaking their big yellow flowers!  They are heliotropic, which means that they turn their flowers to follow the movement of the Sun across the sky east to west; they return to face the east again at night.  Once the flowers have gone over in late summer, leave the seedheads on to provide a feast for the birds in autumn, or cut them off and tie to your bird feeders.

Sunflowers are easy to sow and germinate quickly.  In Aopril and May, fill small pots with compost and poke one sunflower seed into each, covering with compost and then watering.  Place somewhere light and warm to germinate.  Once you have a well-established seedling, plant out in a sunny spot once all danger of frost is over.  You may need to stake the plants as they get bigger to prevent them falling over.

You can also sow directly into the soil – choose a sunny spot and plant the seeds individually about 2 cm deep and 10 cm apart – do this after risk of frost.

Delivery timescale is up to 14 days plus delivery time.  We aim to get orders out as soon as possible and orders are sent out in order of receipt.  However, we can usually accommodate orders needed by a deadline so please do phone or email to see if your order can be sent sooner – during busy periods 14 days is often the norm!  More information about delivery can be read here.
