Grow Wildflowers

Description

RHS Plants for PollinatorsThis is, indeed, a cute wildflower seed packet!  It is made from recycled manilla paper and the design is printed onto a recycled label and stuck on.  Seed packet measures 9 x 12 cm and sowing instructions and seed content are printed on the back.  The neutrality of the design means it is perfect for any event, occasion, gift, and so on.  It is also perfect to give away to encourage people to grow more wildflowers or give them to children to encourage an interest in nature!  There are 15 species of wildflower in this mix, although not every packet may have all 15, due to seed distribution.  The seeds are grown in the UK and are UK species only – all of them are amazing for insects!  Seed content is as follows:

Yarrow, Lesser Knapweed, Wild Carrot, Ladies Bedstraw, Rough Hawkbit, Ox-eye Daisy, Ribwort Plantain, Cowslip, Selfheal, Meadow Buttercup, Yellow Rattle, Sorrel, Salad Burnet, White Campion and Red Campion.

The seeds are in a paper sachet and you will get enough to sow around 1 square metre.  The photo below isn’t the exact mix in this packet but it gives you an idea of what to expect your little patch to look like!

Late spring – end of summer

Up to around 60 cm

Hardy perennials, so they will come back every year.

Full sun

Various

Find a bare patch of soil in full sun and sprinkle the seeds on widely.  Press into the soil and water.  You may want to cover with fleece until the seeds are established to avoid various wild rascals munching the seeds!  If you decide to add a patch of colour to your lawn with this mix, you will need to clear the area completely of grass and start on a bare patch.  Keep an eye on the seeds and water as required.  Once flowering is over, collect the seeds (if you wish) and chop down ready for it all to bloom again next year!
