We are proud to support this fantastic charity – Sheep Ahoy is made up of five human members, many rescue sheep and some goats. They also have an honorary canine member, two horses and three rescued rabbits.
Sheep Ahoy is run by mother and daughter team Julia and Emma, who founded the rescue. Gemma and Geoff and their son Harry joined in March 2016 when they decided to rescue a baby lamb from a livestock market on their wedding anniversary.
It all started back in 2012 with a baby lamb called Sam. Sam had been rejected by his mother and as Emma kept her horses on the field next to the farm, she was given Sam to hand rear. This was a whole new experience for both Emma and Julia, and Sam and Emma developed a real bond. Unfortunately Sam was very weak and did not survive more than 5 weeks which left them devastated. Sam had a lamb friend called Oli back on the farm, and the two had become inseparable. Oli pined for Sam terribly so they were given Oli to try and help all of them recover from the loss of Sam. Oli is the namesake of Oli’s Gang and we became his family. Emma and Julia were desperate to ensure that Oli would be safe for life, so they scrimped together what they could and managed to rent an empty field .
The rest, as they say, is history. I have been to the rescue’s open days and the sheep are so happy. They are intelligent, affectionate creatures who do not deserve to suffer. They love food, they love cuddles and they each have their own distinct personalities – they are just like woolly dogs! We also sponser a sheep – Elvis:
